Manuscripts | Scanning old books

One of the articulations of the international project Africa's Collective Memory is the preservation, conservation, publication and also the dissemination of old manuscripts in Cameroonian languages written between 1920 and 1930 by old Cameroonians who lived through the French and English colonial period. These are therefore texts on the history, politics, culture, religion and social environment of the peoples of Cameroon during the colonial and pre-colonial periods.  In order to preserve all this vanishing memory, the AfricAvenir International Foundation has the ambition to make :

  • The digitization of all these texts
  • The transcription of these documents by Cameroonian language specialists
  • Translation into French, English and German.
  • Publication in the original Cameroonian languages
  • The publication of English, German and English translations.

Finally, these results will be disseminated internationally in bookshops, libraries and online. They will also be available in the Cheikh Anta Diop Library of the AfricAvenir International Foundation in Bonabéri-Douala, Cameroon.
